Updates & Errata, 1st Printing

As How Comics Were Made, September 2024, Aperiodical LLC

p. 7: Caption for William Hogarth at upper-right corner has a typo in the printed form of the shortcut URL. It should read hcwm.ink/UJL.

p. 68 (ebook edition): The lower photo is cropped improperly, but does show the correct detail.

p. 70: The word worked in the caption below “Above:” should read worker.

p. 81: The term hemispherical was inadvertently used to describe a half cylinder stereotype printing plate for a rotary press. It should read semicylindrical.

p. 102: Jahn & Ollier is named without their “&” in the larger descriptive copy.

p. 126: The sentence at the top of the far left column’s main text is missing a period at the end. It should read, “As with Ben Day and Bourges screens, these adhesive sheets could be tints (a regular matrix of same-sized dots), gradations (from light to dark with dots in a regular pattern but increasing in size), or novelty patterns, like stippling or lines.”

p. 130: In the third column to the fourth column, the word “an” is missing in “created an illustration board” (italics for emphasis).

p. 189 (ebook): The Moon Mullins comic that appeared in the print edition was replaced in the ebook edition with a 1926 Gasoline Alley Sunday comic.

p. 216: The comic strip Torchy Brown is incorrectly referred to as just Torchy in the text and caption. (It’s correct in the index, however.)

Misspellings: Apologies for misspelling the following people’s names—I’m sorry! p. 241, Eric Millikin; p. 269n70, Adrienne Lundgren; p. 288, Raegan Carmona.

Acknowledgments: p. 288, middle column bottom: I misstated my mentor Elizabeth Savage’s institution: she is a senior lecturer at the University of London.
